Top Films of 2024

It was a Phenomenal year for movies. We saw interesting failures and triumphs. These are my Favorite films of 2024. It’s relative, but these movies spoke to me and the Culture and timing that they existed within.

Dune Part 2 was the lone Wolf. Of course it had a lot behind it but regardless, There were still huge obstacles standing in its way. Theaters were still figuring Out how to draw people back from the pandemic of streaming and dune sat in a position to be The Conversation around why we Love going to the movies to begin with. It captured my inner young boy and transported me to a place that felt so real and engaging that I forgot about Anything else during the runtime of the film. I imagine this is the Experience young Boys had when they first discovered Star wars in a large scale theatrical screening. Pure awe and Imagination on display with the feeling of being understood, challenged, and inspired.

The Substance stands out as a Crown jewel of how transgressive cinema can feel. In a way that Kubrick did best, The Substance seeps into the viewer With a careful and focused vision that it would be impossible to prepare for. This film is truly a work of art and combines incredible performances and creative visual storytelling that transports you to places you never considered going but will likely be pondering for year to come.

I Approached Robert Egger’s Nosferatu knowing that this director loves a good “lore”. I knew it would be Quite a journey, but I was absolutely swept into this film. Everything about it is surrealist and dream like while being intricate and Emotionally Relevant. This film is truly stunning in every way.

I went into A Complete Unknown, Absolutely oblivious. I understand that will surprise some people but I was not familiar with Bob Dylan from any reference point other Than his name. This film spoke to Me so intimately that I was in physical tears during it. The way he is captured is so special. From the way people made fun of how he talks to the way people Continued to try to box him in Or act like they had him figured out, this movie touches every Detail of The struggles of being misunderstood for the brilliance you want to bring to the world. His light shines so brightly in spite of all the Surface level jaggedness and I found this story so moving, romantic, and inspirational.

Anora came for the crown and she won. From the moment you lay eye on her character you cannot help but be entranced and awed by this powerhouse performance. This film intricately captures class structures, growth, love, and what it means to stand up For yourself in such a raw and Honest Presentation. I Cannot stop revisiting the many sequences this film places you in where high stakes negotiations are going on between people who are able to Fiercely Communicate How things are and should be. I Will champion and watch this film for years to come!
